Jazmin Medrano has been living in Chicago since 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She’s pursuing a Master of Arts in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her specializations and research interests include Spanish sociolinguistics, dialectology, language variation and change with a focus on bi-dialectal Spanish in the U.S.
In 2010, she worked as reporter and staff photographer with Chicago Noticias, an online news portal in Spanish. She combines her interest in street photography and visual journalism to portray how people gather and interact in a social space.
She currently resides in the neighborhood of Avondale in Chicago.
